Health Insurance Options for OSCPA Student Members and/or their families |

As an Accounting student, you may have very different insurance needs from your fellow students. We can help you select and apply for a plan that best suits your current needs. Ask yourself these questions:
How long do I need the coverage? (Until I graduate in __ years/months, until I get a job that offers health insurance following graduation, until I pass the bar exam and get a job following graduation, until I get married and go on my spouse’s plan, perhaps 5 years, 10 years, forever?)
Do I need coverage for my spouse and/or children?
How am I going to pay for the coverage? (check, monthly bank account draft, credit card, parents)
What do I need/want the insurance to cover? (prescriptions, doctors visits, hospital/catastrophic only, maternity)
Do I have past or present health conditions that may cause an increase in premium or declination of coverage?
Based on your answers to these questions, we can help you find a plan that best meets your needs. We offer short-term plans, student medical plans, international travel medical plans, as well as a variety of individual health insurance plans, children’s individual medical plans, etc.
Short-term Medical: Take coverage out for as little as 30 days, or up to 12 months. Short-term Medical Plans do not cover pre-existing medical conditions, and do not cover outpatient prescriptions or maternity. Coverage is not renewable; however, upon expiration, most carriers allow you to take out a new short-term plan. Use this plan if you anticipate you will be eligible for another plan in 30-180 days. The application is short- one page, with only 2 or 3 medical questions. If eligible, coverage can be effective as early as the day after the postmark on your envelope. Depending on the carrier, premiums can be paid in advance by check, or monthly by bank draft or credit card.
Student Medical: For students under age 30, student medical can provide adequate coverage at an affordable price. Plans do not cover maternity, prescriptions or pre-existing conditions. The application is short- one page, with only a few health questions. If eligible, coverage can be effective as early as the day after the postmark on your envelope. Premiums can be paid Semi-Annually or Annually, via check, money order or credit card.
Individual Medical: Fully underwritten individual medical plans are available through a variety of carriers. Please contact us to let us know what type of coverage you’re looking for, what your desired premium range is, and whether your family members need coverage as well. Fully underwritten plans require an application with several health-related questions, and may require additional medical questionnaires, a telephone interview, and/or medical records. Underwriting can take 15-90 days, depending on the carrier and what additional information is requested, if any.
Oklahoma High Risk Pool: If you have past or present medical conditions that prevent you from being able to obtain the plans described above, we can help you secure coverage through the Oklahoma High Risk Pool.
